Welcome to Storyslingers! We are a small creative writing group based in picturesque Dorset in the United Kingdom. This site was created so we could share links and information about writing, reading, editing, story submissions, rejection, and up-coming events, as well as post articles and notes taken from our meetings. We also keep a Stories page dedicated to our works that have been published—do check it out if you have time.
We get together regularly every first and third Tuesday of each month, at the Shaftesbury Arts Centre. Meetings generally consist of discussions about various writing topics, news and updates on writing events, reading our stories with optional critique, and free writing. We also get involved in local arts and literary festivals when possible, and sometimes we hand-make story booklets, flyers and bookmarks to sell at these events.
So far we’ve held a Short Story Slam (summer 2011) which was a massive success, where writers came from across Dorset to read out their short stories competitively. We’re hoping to host more slams in the future. We’ve also collaborated with Shaftesbury café Beggar’s Banquet to put on a music, prose and poetry evening with local writers and artists, and author Tony Benge kindly came in to do a workshop with us on writing for performance.
While this site is aimed at members of the group, anyone is welcome to take a look around and get in touch. We’re particularly hoping to connect and network with other writing groups, authors, publishers, or writing event organisers. If you would like to affiliate your writing website with Storyslingers, please drop us a message. We will get back to you as soon as possible.
If you have any questions or comments about the group or site, feel free to email either one of us:
